What is the Indian visa or e-visa? 

The Indian visa or e-Visa is an electronic authorization issued by the Government of India for foreign visitors who wish to travel to India for recreation, family visit, business, tourism or medical visits. 

While the e-visa can be easily applied online, the regular visa requires additional measures to be followed. 

With the e-visa, you do not have to manually submit your passport or any of your documents to the consulate. Indian visa makes life simpler for foreign travellers. 

Approval for the applied Indian visa will be sent as a document directly to your email address. For the final step, you just have to print out the soft copy of the document and provide it at the immigration checkpoint. 

There are two very important things that you need to keep in mind before applying for any kind of Indian visa, whether it is apply for Indian medical visa or Indian tourist visa – passport and photograph.

  • The photograph should be in colour. The object should be distinct and there should not be any red-eye effect.
  • Make sure to upload photography that is clicked during the day time with ample light. 
  • You should upload a recent photograph. Do not make the usual mistake of uploading one that has been clicked like ages ago!
  • The dimensions of the photograph must be 2-inch x 2 inches (51 mm x 51 mm) for Visa.
  • The print quality of the photograph should be clear and there should not be any digital noise. 
  • Ensure that the tone of the photograph is continuous and not irregular. 
  • Your photograph should not be unclear or obscure. It should have a white background. 
  • The photograph should have a full face, front view, eyes open and features visible. 
  • Your photograph should clearly show your full head – from top of hair to bottom of the chin.
  • Ensure that your head is central to the entire frame.
  • Your photograph for the application of an Indian medical visa should not have any shadows or there should not be any shadow on the face or the background.
  • Head coverings are only permitted for religious reasons. However, in that case, also, facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both the facial edges must be shown clearly.
  • The expression on the photograph should not be forced. It should look natural.
